Would i have what it takes to do tattooing in a few years?

Well, if you're so pionate about it, there's nothing to stop you. Don't worry too much about actually learning to use the equipment yet - you'll get to that eventually. For now you should totally focus on your artwork. Learning to use the equipment properly is obviously very important, but pretty much anyone can learn to do that, given enough time. Only a good artist can become a good tattoo artist. You should try to do an art course at college or something, learn as much as you can about drawing as you can. It's much easier learning to use tattooing equipment as another art tool than it is to learn to draw using the gear. Besides, there are already far too many crap tattoo artists out there who can't draw very well - don't be one of those. You have a great advantage in your tattooing relative - you can pick up loads of tips from him while you're learning to draw. And no harm in getting to know the equipment a bit while you're talking to him. But the important thing is to focus on your art. You can never be too good at that!
