Where and when was the last lynching of a black person in America?

In 1981 the trial of Josephus Andersonan, an African American charged with the murder of a white policeman, took place in Mobile, Alabama. The Jury could not reach a verdict. Members of the local KKK reasoned that if a black man could get away with killing a white man, then a white man could get away with killing a black man. On Saturday 21st March, 1981, three KKK men drove around Mobile until they found a black man, Michael Donald, walking home. He was forced into the car and driven to the next county where he was lynched. This appears to be the last known lynching of a black in the U.S.
