Was Nicholas Hammond asked to be in any of the Spiderman films?

Hammond played Spiderman on TV in the 70's. Was he approached to be in any of the films. Also I read that he now resides in Australia and he has only been in the third Crocodile Dundee film. Is he still active in the movies?
