How can I synthesize o-nitrobenzaldehyde from benzene?

Well considering how deactivating the nitro group is, i would suggest adding the aldehyde first. Do this through a friedel's craft's acylation (so essentially use acetyl chloride (ch3cocl) along with alcl3). Then go ahead and proceed with the nitration of benzaldehyde (should be ortho directing).
